Fundraising and Outreach.

Fundraising allows us to provide our partner organisations with a cost-free cooking service, paying for all training and ingredients. Particular successes have included some excellent bake sales, pub quizzes, and selling our sustainably-sourced shopper bags (available online!). We have more exciting events in the works, including lunchtime soup stalls and ceilidhs!

Outreach entails all of our efforts to directly assist those affected by homelessness outside of our cooking sessions. This is organised in collaboration with a number of fantastic Edinburgh charities and organisations. Our annual Festive Gift campaign provides residents of Simon Community Women’s Emergency Accommodation with gift bags of hats, scarves and other presents donated by local residents and businesses. In December 2022, we took part in Simon Community’s annual rough sleeper count and distributed hot water bottles which could be refilled at designated cafes across the city centre. We look forward to expanding this part of Slurp’s activities, with the aim of improving engagement and sustainability - including a move towards the use of surplus food from local supermarkets in our cooking sessions.
